How I got Here
I got into app and product design after learning to make and design websites as a teenager. After doing some freelancing, I was fully focused on app design by the time I was 17.
I started my career working at a startup in Berlin caled Wunderlist. After spending 2 and a half years there, I left the company following an aquisition by Microsoft in the spring of 2015.
I moved to England and initially freelanced for a few startups, before joining Monzo as a Product Designer.
A Day In My Shoes
It's rare I'll go a week doing the same thing each day.
I tend to have one bigger project that's part of the app or upcoming current account that I'm focused on, and so will try to spend a few hours on that in the day. For example, I recently redesigned our signup and onboarding of new users as well as adding in a new piece of functionality to searching transactions on our Android app.
There's also an assortment of meetings, reviews, candidate interviews and standups that are interspersed through the day.
I recently gave an example of one of my weeks on our community forum, and you can check it out here.
What I Love Most
With Monzo we have a really unique and exciting opportunity to disrupt the world of banking, which is something that affects every member of our population to some degree.
'Disruption' as a term in the startup world is often thrown around, or prone to quite a vague definition, but I think we've worked ourselves into a very good position at Monzo to change a very old and increasingly deprecated industry.
It's also incredibly enjoyable to work on something that you use every single day.
