MyTutor is an educational technology company dedicated to providing opportunities for 1-to-1 tuition at scale via a digital marketplace and online learning platform.
In the office we’re a team of 20 based in Oxford Circus, but we also have a community of over 3,500 tutors across the UK that support our business every day.
Getting education right has been an age-old problem within society. While 1-to-1 tuition has always been recognised as a superior form of teaching, people looking for help have normally been constrained to looking for tutors in their local area.
We saw an opportunity to use new technology to enable parents and students to find and get taught by their ideal tutors, no matter where they lived.
Core Team Values
MyTutor is the UK’s leading online platform for one-to-one learning. We match school learners with our 3,000 inspiring university students.
Pupils get personalised support online via a platform which has online video and white boarding, while for university students, it represents an attractive income and work that fits conveniently around their degrees.
Our company was founded and is being built by passionate parents, learners and technologists.
We are a team of friends, colleagues and experts, driven by our mission to bring tuition into the 21st century.
We were brought to life in the summer of 2013, after one of our co-founders Robert Garvinier struggled to find a good tutor in his local area for his daughter and decided to do something about it. Robert teamed up with our current CEO, Bertie Hubbard, and after some initial development MyTutor was born.
After building our business for a year, our online service had successfully enabled 3,500 tutoring sessions, delivered by Oxbridge and Russell Group university students who were taking home an average of £17 an hour. On most days our first year, we were able to sign up six new parents in search of tutors.
We successfully closed a £3 million Series A funding round led by Mobeus Equity Partners, and with participation from high-profile angels including Clive Cowdery (Resolution Capital) and Thomas Hoegh (Arts Alliance).
Now, we’re working hard to use our Series A funding to grow our company and continue our 3x year-on-year growth. That means growing our tutor community, developing our technology, and delivering more and more 1-on-1 tutorials online.
