We created Student2Startup after seeing too many young people beginning their careers doing jobs that they didn't enjoy, where they felt that weren't developing, and in which they didn't believe they were making an impact that mattered to them.
And after drawing on a range of experiences and research, we found that companies with a
Startup mentality provided an environment for young hires to begin their careers differently:
doing something they love from day one.
Now, we're on a mission to get 10,000 young people into startup jobs by 2020.
But we know it won't be easy; that's why we're building a community of students and startups that will help us get there together.
WHAT'S OUR MISSION?
When we say students, we don't mean people at school or university. Instead, we want people that consistently embody the mindset of a student:
Think you're the kind of student we're looking for?
Willing and wanting to take on fresh challenges, develop new skills and use their experience over time to create and deliver value for themselves and their organisation
Constantly seeking to improve and never settling for average, setting difficult goals, and willing to work hard in order to achieve them
Always searching for new information, looking to provide fresh perspectives to solve problems, and never settling for not getting to an answer
Not all new companies are startups, and not all 'startups' will be the right fit for our community.
For us, a Student-friendly Startup needs to be:
Still developing in a range of internal and external aspects, including value proposition, employee count and even overall mission
Seeking to embrace change, able to progress within unknown conditions, and ready to take on risk as necessary in order to help the business grow
Think you're the kind of startup we're looking for?
Operating against a well thought-out and carefully formulated plan that is open to change but fundementally backed by the team behind it
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
WHO ARE WE?
Since launching in 2017, Student2Startup has been described in a range of ways...
"a centre for resources and services to help promote understanding of and access to employement options within UK startups."
"an organisation dedicated to promoting happiness and fulfillment for young people as they look to begin their careers"
For us, it's simple:
A community of individuals and companies who believe that everyone deserves a career they are proud to call their own
When it comes to finding both Students and Startups, we're on the hunt for a certain mentality more than anything else. Our community is united by the common goal of building workplaces which promote happiness and fulfilment for all, and supported by the belief that everyone deserves a career they love to call their own.
